Welcome!

As the Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties, I want to welcome you to Habitat’s new website! I hope you find this site easy to use, with all the information you need to learn more about and become involved with Habitat.

Habitat is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing decent, affordable housing for working members of our community. Since 1995, Habitat has built and sold ten homes in Summit and Wasatch Counties, benefiting 15 adults and 24 children who might not otherwise have had access to permanent, affordable shelter.

Habitat is led by a volunteer Board of Directors and a small paid staff, and relies on tax-deductible donations of money and materials (not to mention labor) to support its activities. The need for affordable housing in our area is vast and well-documented. On this website, you can learn more about affordable housing and its benefits. You can also read about some of our homeowners. I think you will find their stories quite compelling!

Habitat needs your help today to be able to offer a “hand up” (but never a “hand out”!) to home ownership to more deserving families in Summit and Wasatch Counties. Whether it’s donating money or building materials, or participating in a home construction project or providing assistance with data entry or a community event, there’s lots of ways you can support Habitat in its mission!

Thanks again for visiting Habitat’s website! Please feel free to contact us directly with any questions or comments, or to donate or offer assistance. We look forward to hearing from you!

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF SUMMIT AND WASATCH COUNTIES RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Funds will be used to support construction of two single-family homes in Park City, Utah

PARK CITY – September 23, 2009.  Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties (Habitat) recently announced that it has received a grant/scholarship in the amount of $5,000 from the American Express Center for Community Development (CCD). These funds are intended to support the construction by Habitat of two single-family homes in Park City, Utah. Habitat’s current plans call for the construction of these two homes to begin in early spring, 2010.

“Habitat is thrilled to have received a grant from the American Express Center for Community Development”, said Kathy Lofft, Executive Director of Habitat. Ms. Lofft noted that CCD is a past supporter of Habitat, and went on to describe the impact this grant will have on the organization:  “These funds will provide critical support for our next planned build, which will be Habitat’s first-ever construction project inside Park City’s municipal boundaries. With CCD’s help, Habitat’s program will allow two local families the opportunity to become first-time homebuyers in a market that has become unaffordable for too many productive workers in our community.”
