HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF SUMMIT AND WASATCH COUNTIES RECEIVES $5,000 GRANT FROM AMERICAN EXPRESS CENTER FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Funds will be used to support construction of two single-family homes in Park City, Utah
PARK CITY – September 23, 2009. Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties (Habitat) recently announced that it has received a grant/scholarship in the amount of $5,000 from the American Express Center for Community Development (CCD). These funds are intended to support the construction by Habitat of two single-family homes in Park City, Utah. Habitat’s current plans call for the construction of these two homes to begin in early spring, 2010.
“Habitat is thrilled to have received a grant from the American Express Center for Community Development”, said Kathy Lofft, Executive Director of Habitat. Ms. Lofft noted that CCD is a past supporter of Habitat, and went on to describe the impact this grant will have on the organization: “These funds will provide critical support for our next planned build, which will be Habitat’s first-ever construction project inside Park City’s municipal boundaries. With CCD’s help, Habitat’s program will allow two local families the opportunity to become first-time homebuyers in a market that has become unaffordable for too many productive workers in our community.”
Habitat for Humanity of Summit and Wasatch Counties is a non-profit organization that builds and sells decent, affordable homes to benefit working members of the community. Habitat’s principal mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness in its service area and around the world. Since 1995, Habitat has completed ten homes, benefiting 15 adults and 24 children who might not otherwise have had access to permanent, affordable housing but for its efforts.
