Volunteers
Requirements
Habitat relies on volunteers for various tasks – to help build homes, staff information or display booths, participate in parades and other community events and assist with data entry, mailings and other office work. If you are interested in volunteering with Habitat in any capacity, please click here to be added to our volunteer database.
Construction volunteers must be 18 years of age or older (or 16 with a parent’s or guardian’s permission) and have completed (or have a parent or guardian complete, if applicable) and submitted to Habitat a volunteer application, release and waiver. A construction volunteer may not participate in a home build (whether as an individual or with a group) without first completing and submitting these forms:
Volunteer Application, Release and Waiver (ages 18+)
Volunteer Application, Release and Waiver (ages 16-17)
Individual construction volunteers will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, as the number of volunteers is typically limited for operational and safety reasons; however, we will make every effort to accommodate your preferred days/dates and times. Please see our volunteer schedule to learn more about upcoming build dates!
Groups
Does your school or church group, book club or trade association want to get involved in the community, dedicating time to a good cause that will provide a tangible benefit to your fellow residents, neighbors and colleagues? Then come out and volunteer with Habitat!
Home builds are ideal group projects. Habitat can generally accommodate up to 12 people in a single four-hour period on a home build. One or more days a week on each home build will be set aside to accommodate group volunteers. Group volunteer days must be scheduled in advance. Please see our volunteer schedule to identify upcoming group volunteer days, and contact us to make the arrangements!
Corporate Team Building
Is your company looking for ways to build organizational effectiveness while giving back to the community? Then come out and volunteer with Habitat! Participating in a Corporate Team Building event offers many benefits, both for your company and for Habitat:
- Improved communication, cooperation and camaraderie in your company
- Enhanced team spirit and morale
- The thrill of seeing the immediate results of your volunteer efforts
- Critical funding needed to build affordable homes in Summit and Wasatch Counties
- The chance to work alongside and get to know prospective Habitat homeowners
Your company’s donation of $3,000 per day (up to 24 volunteers total) will cover the cost of building materials, tools, food, beverages, T-shirts and skilled supervision for the entire group. Habitat is a registered 501(c)(3) corporation, and the donation is tax-deductible for your company!
Corporate Team Building events must be arranged in advance. Contact us today to schedule your Corporate Team Building event! You and your colleagues are sure to have an amazing experience, one that you are bound to cherish for years to come!

Youth
If you are aged 15 or under, don’t worry – while you may not be old enough to serve as a construction volunteer, there’s still plenty of ways you can support Habitat! Contact us about participating in one of the following programs, through which you can learn more about and provide critical support for Habitat and its mission:
“Educate Your Community” Program
Do your family, friends and neighbors know about Habitat? Do they understand its mission, how it operates or how critical it is that Habitat continue to be able to provide affordable housing for needy families in our community? This is your opportunity to educate the people you know, and help Habitat at the same time! We’ll provide you with the materials – it’s up to you to reach out to your school, church group, youth group, neighborhood or sports team and tell them about what we do and the many people we help! Encourage your parents and their adult friends to sign up to volunteer with Habitat! Get them registered to help raise money for Habitat through Good Search/Good Shop! If your neighbor has an old automobile sitting in his driveway, encourage him to donate it to Cars for Homes! It truly takes a village to make sure everyone knows about Habitat and the good work it performs in our community!
“How a House is Built” Program
This is a fun opportunity for local youth groups to learn more about Habitat and how it builds modest, affordable homes for families in need. Get your group together to sell lemonade, hold a car wash or mow lawns to raise money for a Habitat home build! Once you’ve met your fundraising goal, we’ll invite you to visit an ongoing construction project and observe the process. Your Habitat guide will give you a tour of the home, and explain the construction in greater detail. You’ll get to meet other Habitat volunteers and Habitat homeowners too! Once the home is completed, your group will be invited to the ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony, so you can celebrate Habitat’s and the family’s success and your participation in making it happen!
Volunteer Support
Help keep our hardworking construction volunteers going by contributing baked goods, drinks or other items to our home build days. Get your youth group together and make your own cookies, brownies or dessert bars, or raise some money and buy bottled water, sports drinks or soft drinks for the folks who commit their own precious time and effort to helping us build homes for needy families. Our volunteer groups average 12 people during each four hour period (up to 24 people in the course of a day), so make sure you account for that in your planning!
Other Opportunities
There are lots of other ways you can help Habitat. These are only examples – feel free to come up with your own ideas!
- Collect and donate construction supplies to Habitat
- Help develop T-shirt designs or posters for Habitat
- Gather supplies to create first-aid kits for use at Habitat construction sites
- Solicit donations of kitchen or bathroom supplies for new Habitat homeowners
- Visit local grocery stores and collect donations of dry goods and other items to fill the pantry of a new Habitat homeowner
